Local Natives – Gorilla Manor

It’s finally here, the entire debut album from LA-based folk fivesome Local Natives. Five or six tracks were released last year, in fact I think “Airplanes” was one of my favorite songs of ’09. Does that make Gorilla Manor’s final Feb 2010 release extremely exciting or old news? Coming from someone who has heard and loved all twelve tracks, I say go with the first. The group is currently on tour in Europe until March, but we hope to see them live and domestic ASAP.
Ben Sollee and Daniel Martin Moore – Dear Companion

A surprising number of musicians you like live in Kentucky, something that I learned through my years of following YANP. It was through that very blogger that I learned how BFF Ben Sollee and Daniel Martin Moore were, as they seemed to super enjoy playing together. Well, looks like the stringed Kentuckians have further proven that fact by dropping a collaboration album, produced by a third Kentuckier – Jim James (see: My Morning Jacket, Monsters of Folk). Expect cello, fiddle, and fun – and catch the two on tour in Cleveland on March 11 at the Beachland Ballroom.
Lightspeed Champion – Life is Sweet! Nice to Meet You

Devonte Hynes is the man behind Lightspeed Champion, a Britain dwelling, Domino Records darling who is releasing his sophomore album tomorrow entitled Life is Sweet! Nice to Meet You. Produced by Ben Allen (See: Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley), the album was put on hold after it began recording in ’08 for Devonte’s throat surgery. Glad Life is Sweet!… is finally hitting our ‘pods, tables, stereos, etc.
Adam Green – Minor Love

I posted on my love for Adam Green back in December, and it hasn’t changed. This second half of the Moldy Peaches is awful sweet, keeping his anti-folk feelings alive under a minimal electric and vocals sound with Minor Love. Looks like all of Kimya’s boys are going solo (Angelo Spencer released a solo album last week!).
