Nothing like a little math rock to start your day off, is there? That’s why it’s my pleasure to introduce you to Bellingham, Washinton’s own Rooftops.
I really dig the way this foursome layers its instrumentation of horns, strings, guitars and percussion while staying shy of much vocal interaction. Ambient and instrumental groups can tend to be either really interesting, or really boring – so I was glad to find Rooftops falling into the first category.
They dropped a soft release of their debut, A Forest of Polarity, in November with limited distribution. But perk your ears, new Rooftops fans, a re-release with worldwide distribution is set for May 18, 2010. Topshelf Records will be handling the vinyl pressing, which can be pre-ordered starting April 1, while Clickpop is handling the CD variety.
Cleveland fans are in luck – Rooftops are currently on a nationwide tour with the Americas, set to storm through the Gordon Square neighborhood on March 24th with a show at the Happy Dog. Familiarize yourself with their sound, below, and I’ll see you at the show!
