The Tallest Man On Earth – The Wild Hunt

The Wild Hunt

Dead Oceans/ buy

Sweden’s Kristian Matsson is the Tallest Man on Earth, a passionate folksy songwriter who drops his sophomore LP The Wild Hunt today. A follow up to 2008′s gorgeous Shallow Grave, which landed him tours with John Vanderslice and Bon Iver, this is a definite 2010 must-have record. Matsson picks up where he left off for the most part, juggling between piano and acoustic to back his Dylanesque lyrics. It’s simple, raw emotion – and isn’t that, after all, what we like about folk music?

Freelance Whales – Weathervanes

Frenchkiss / buy

There’s been a good amount of buzz surrounding the debut LP from Queens’ fun and poppy fivesome Freelance Whales. The hooks and quirky instruments found on Weathervanes will appeal to just about everyone (especially if you like surprisingly placed banjos). After a string of dates supporting the Shout Out Louds they’ll hit the Grog Shop solo on June 12th.
