If there’s one thing that I am a huge supporter of, it’s the independent record store. If you want to support artists and the unique presence of your local music community, every once in a while you gotta say no to iTunes or torrents and yes to a compact disk or vinyl. In wanting to support the collection of Independent record stores across the country, my favorite holiday was created – Record Store Day.
This Saturday, April 17th, a huge collection of limited edition and rare new releases and reissues are being sold at only Record Store Day friendly stores. If you’re a Cleveland dweller that gives you three choices: Music Saves or Blue Arrow Records in Collinwood and My Mind’s Eye in Lakewood (Phonographic Arts in Tremont will not be selling RSD releases, but they will be grilling out in a veggie friendly manner on Saturday, and I’m not sure about Bent Crayon in Cleveland).
I can’t give you much info on My Minds Eye’s plans outside of selling the RSD releases, but I can tell you tons about Music Saves and Blue Arrow Records. Saturday the entire Waterloo community is going to be celebrating, hosting one of their famous Walk All Over Waterloo events. Discounts and deals will be going on at all the Waterloo hot spots, the Beachland Ballroom will be filming a Mountain Goats documentary, bands will be performing starting at 5:30 over at Music Saves, and it’s basically going to be a night of insane fun. Check after the jump for the huge list of Record Store Day releases, and check the Music Saves site for a list of the fun in Collinwood this weekend, all starting at noon!
